REESE'S EYE APPOINTMENT
Ever since Reese has been born she has had a clogged tear duct. Joshua had the same thing when he was born so i really knew what to expect with it. Lots of gross, enormous eye boogers!!!!! Which i will admit...i LOVE picking at. Reese didn't mind in the beginning, but when she was about 3 months old she started hating me digging in her eye every 5 minutes.
So when her 6 month check came around and her eye wasn't any better the doctor told me that i had to take her to the eye specialist. My doctor told me that they will start out with some steroid drops for her eye to see if the clog with go away with that. Then if it doesn't then they have to unclog it themselves with a catheter down her tear duct...DON'T THINK SO!!!
So anyway her appointment was this last Thursday. Thankfully it was the day before the 4Th and Josh's boss told them they could leave after lunch. So luckily he was able to go with us. We finally get in to see the doctor and he starts going over what he wants to do with her eye. He said we could do the eye drops for about 6 months and then if it didn't work by the time she was 11 months old they would have to put her to sleep to unclog it. They said the best thing to do is to just unclog it in the doctors office. SOUNDS SIMPLY RIGHT??!!!!
Well i guess i am the idiot...i thought a catheter was as big as a piece of string....WRONG. Well what they do is they strap her on to a stretcher (the board that the paramedics use) and then strap her hands down and one doctor holds her head and the other one does the procedure. They say they numb it but i don't think it works. This catheter is about the size of a crochet needle. You all know how big that is????? Well they stick a needle down her tear duct to open it up and then the catheter. Well Reese got to the point of screaming where i don't think that a sound was coming out. I didn't watch but Josh did and he said her lips where turning purple from screaming so much. I was crying with my back turned. I swear it felt like it lasted about 45 minutes but the whole thing from start to finish lasted only 2 minutes.
I will say since that appointment i haven't had to wipe her eye once!!!!!! Also i will never do that again. If we have another child and the same thing happens to them i will opt for the surgery. I know they don't remember what happen to them but i do and it was awful!!!!!!!!!!
